Overview

If Exchange gives the error:

   ERR Command is not valid in this state

when trying to connect via POP, configuring plain text login can resolve it.

Procedure

  1. Log into your Exchange 2010 CAS server.
  2. Open the Exchange Management Shell.
  3. Issue the command::

    Set-PopSettings -LoginType PlainTextLogin

  4. Restart the Exchange POP Service.
